What is a QBO file?
A QBO file is a QuickBooks Web Connect transaction file. Unlike a plain CSV table, it contains transaction records plus account and institution fields in a format that supported QuickBooks products can read during an import. Converting a bank CSV to QBO does not connect to your bank, verify transactions, or sync an account; it creates a file for you to import yourself.
Import availability and the steps can differ by QuickBooks edition, region, account configuration, and the institution details required by your setup. If QuickBooks rejects a file or does not offer Web Connect import, check the import options and account requirements for the specific QuickBooks product you use.
Preparing a CSV for conversion
Export the transactions you need with a date, description, and either one amount column or separate debit and credit columns. The converter recognizes comma-, semicolon-, and tab-delimited files, quoted CSV values, and common date and amount formats. It can process up to 50,000 transaction rows per file. Remove report titles or blank introductory lines if they make the column header difficult to identify.
For a single amount column, enter debits as negative values and credits as positive values. With separate columns, enter each transaction in its debit or credit column, not both. Dates such as 2025-03-14 are unambiguous; for dates where both the day and month are 12 or lower, automatic detection assumes month/day/year. Choose the matching date format if your bank export uses day/month/year instead.
Amounts can include common currency symbols and separators. Still, inspect the preview and excluded-row notice before converting, especially when a bank uses an unfamiliar number format. The converter does not infer missing dates, descriptions, or amounts, and it does not alter the source CSV.
Account details and transaction review
The account number is required to create the QBO download. Enter the identifier for the QuickBooks account you intend to import into, and confirm the institution name and bank ID rather than assuming the example defaults are correct. Choose the account type and currency that match your intended account setup. The currency field records a code; it does not perform foreign-exchange conversion.
Before importing, compare the preview dates, descriptions, and amounts with your original statement. This converter sorts the included transactions by date in the generated file. Rows that cannot be interpreted are excluded, and the tool reports their source row numbers. Correct the relevant data or mapping and select the file again if you need those transactions included.
Free online conversion, processed in your browser
This free CSV to QBO converter runs in the page without a signup, application-server upload, or software installation. Your selected file is read in the current browser tab, and the QBO text is generated there for download. Account details are included only in the file you create; they are not stored by this tool. Close or refresh the page to clear the current file and working data from the tool.
Because processing is local, you remain responsible for checking the result and keeping your source statement secure. The tool accepts files up to 10 MB and limits processing to 50,000 rows to keep the browser workload bounded. If a file is larger, split the export into smaller date ranges and convert each part separately.
CSV to QBO converter questions
How do I convert .csv files to .qbo for free?
Choose your CSV or TXT transaction file, match the date, description, and amount columns, enter the account identifier for QuickBooks, and review the transaction preview. Select Convert to QBO, then download the .qbo file. Conversion runs in your browser without signup or payment.
Can I convert CSV to QBO free online without signing up?
Yes. This free CSV to QBO converter works in a modern browser without an account, payment, or software installation. Select a transaction file, check the column mapping and preview, then create the QBO download.
Do I need a QuickBooks account to create a QBO file?
No QuickBooks account is needed to create or download a QBO file with this converter. To import the file, you need a QuickBooks product that supports Web Connect and an account configured for the import.
What columns and file types does the converter accept?
Choose a CSV or plain-text TXT file up to 10 MB. Each transaction needs a date, description, and amount. Amounts can use one signed column or separate debit and credit columns; the first row may contain column names.
Can I convert a bank statement PDF or Excel workbook?
No. The converter accepts CSV and plain-text TXT files, not PDF statements or Excel workbooks. Export or download the transactions as CSV from your bank or spreadsheet app first.
Is this a CSV to QBO converter free online?
Yes. The CSV to QBO converter is free to use online. The file is processed in your browser, and there is no signup or charge to create and download a QBO file.
Is my bank CSV uploaded or stored?
No. The selected file is read and converted in your browser. Its contents and the account details you enter are not sent to a Finesseour server or saved by this tool.
Why were some CSV transactions excluded?
A row is excluded if its date, description, or amount is missing or cannot be interpreted. The converter reports affected row numbers so you can correct the source file or adjust the column and date-format selections.
How does the converter interpret ambiguous dates?
Automatic detection assumes month/day/year when both the day and month are 12 or lower. Choose the matching date format in the tool if your file uses day/month/year.
Does choosing a currency convert transaction amounts?
No. The currency choice sets the currency code in the QBO file only. Transaction amounts are not exchanged, recalculated, or otherwise converted.
Will every QBO file import successfully into QuickBooks?
Import support depends on your QuickBooks product, region, account configuration, and institution details. Review the transaction preview and confirm your product supports Web Connect before importing; this converter cannot guarantee acceptance by QuickBooks.
